Basketball Recap: Fernley Piles Up the Points Against White Pine

Fernley put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the White Pine Bobcats, posting a 66-38 victory. Given the Vaqueros' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Bobcats are ranked 42nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Fernley to victory were Taylor Tollestrup and Jaelece Wasson. Tollestrup went 9 for 13 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks, while Wasson went 7 of 12 on her way to 17 points and three steals. Tollestrup is crushing it when it comes to points: she's scored at least 18 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kensey Kreller, who posted six points.

Fernley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, White Pine saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brenley Skadburg had 27 points. The dominant performance gave Skadburg a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley Oxborrow, who posted six points.

Fernley's record now sits at 3-0. As for White Pine, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Fernley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-41 win against Durango on the 30th. As for White Pine, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-14 victory against Pinecrest Academy Cadence on the 30th.
