Basketball Recap: Tatum Watson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Greenbrier Christian Academy

Broadwater Academy can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators out 34-31. The Vikings have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Gators, too.

Broadwater Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tatum Watson, who posted eight points. Miranda Smith also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Broadwater Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Greenbrier Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Katelyn Balka dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. Balka is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Broadwater Academy's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-3. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.

Broadwater Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Portsmouth Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Broadwater Academy is facing Portsmouth Christian at the right time seeing as Portsmouth Christian is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they and StoneBridge will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. StoneBridge will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Greenbrier Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
