Softball Recap: Kankakee Comes Up Short

Kankakee dropped down to 6-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Bloom Blazing Trojan, falling 16-0. Having soared to a lofty 32 runs in the game before, the Kays' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Bloom, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-10. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Bloom's part, Samantha Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, Sanchez posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sandy Munoz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Natalia Banuelos was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs.

Bloom has already played their next game, a 19-3 defeat against Blue Island Eisenhower on the 25th. Hopefully Kankakee paid attention to the Blazing Trojan's contest: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Blazing Trojan at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
