Mount Sinai and its new head coach - the legendary Joe Cuozzo - has dominated much of the early-season lacrosse headlines on Long Island, a national hotbed for the sport.
But the spotlight shifted to Huntington High last Tuesday, April 17, as the Blue Devils captured their 50th-straight win. Beating Cuozzo's team, 11-6, Huntington (7-0) continued a streak that began after a playoff loss to Hills West in 2004. Zach Howell, headed to Duke, has played in all 50 wins and had one goal and two assists in the game.
Cuozzo, who captured his 700th career victory earlier this season, won 50-straight with Ward Melville in a streak that encompassed four seasons from 1998 to 2001.

Baseball: Miller Place Gets the Best of Shoreham
Until the bottom of the fifth inning it was just a regular baseball game filled with good, fundamental play. Then the fun started.
With runners on first and second with two outs and the scored tied at two, Miller Place southpaw pitcher Andrew Smith didn't have any wiggle room to make a mistake. Shoreham-Wading River's Dylan Teifer hit a laser back at Smith, nailing his left knee, but the ball to a fortunate turn to first baseman Keith Butler, who fielded it to end the inning.
Miller Place then caught a break in the top of the seventh inning when Dean Haussel hit a ground ball to SWR pitcher Kevin Triptree, who threw the ball past Butler, allowing Joe Mancini to score the eventual game-winning run on an error in the, 4-2, Suffolk League VI win on Wednesday April 18.
"A win is a win," Miller Place head coach Ira Kohansov said. "We're not playing our best baseball by any means right now, so we'll take any win we can squeak out."
Smith allowed two runs, four hits and five walks in five innings, settling for a no decision. Reliever Jeff Taddonio got the win. Shoreham won the previous day, 5-2, and the rubber match the next day, 5-3.
