Softball Recap: Hood River Valley's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Hood River Valley dropped their record down to 14-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Canby Cougars by a score of 3-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Wednesday.

As for Canby, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-6. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10 runs.

For Canby's part, the result came thanks to Alli Hayzlett's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 18 Ks. Hayzlett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Canby's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Toma, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hood River Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Wilsonville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.6, the Wildcats 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Canby will face off against rival La Salle at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
