Volleyball Recap: Cotopaxi's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Custer County, Cotopaxi was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the La Veta Redhawks with a sharp 3-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Pirates as it put an end to their five-match losing streak.

Cotopaxi walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the first set). The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.

Leading Cotopaxi to victory were Illiana Herrera and Sophie Eggleston. Herrera had eight digs and eight assists, while Eggleston had 16 digs and three aces. That's the most assists Herrera has posted since September 2nd.

They weren't the only good servers: Cotopaxi was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Cotopaxi picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-7. As for La Veta, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Cotopaxi will challenge Cripple Creek-Victor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Veta, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Dayspring Christian Academy on the 27th.
