Lamar proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 42) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-54 victory over the Heights Bulldogs. The win was familiar territory for the Texans who have now won five matchups in a row.

Despite the defeat, Heights saw an underclassman step up: freshman Eric (Ej) Beard Jr posted 19 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Beard Jr a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Dj Baines, who put up ten points.

Lamar has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points per game. As for Heights, they moved to 16-12 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Lamar and Heights will both be playing Bellaire the next time they take the court. Heights will host Bellaire at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Lamar will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
