Baseball Recap: Riverdale's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

While Riverdale's victory against Darlington wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chieftains skirted past the Redbirds 14-12. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Chieftains as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Chase Chitwood made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Chitwood was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April.

In other batting news, Riverdale let Bevyn Dennis and Henry Drone run wild. Dennis got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Drone went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most runs Dennis has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Conlan Walsh, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Riverdale's victory bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Darlington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Riverdale will take on La Farge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chieftains are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Darlington, they will head out to challenge Fennimore at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
