Middleton extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 18-8 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Vel Phillips Memorial Spartans. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.

As for Vel Phillips Memorial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-8-1 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs.

For Vel Phillips Memorial's part, Ezra Liggon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-6 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Eckel, who got four hits from his seven at bats.
