League recap: Hanover Area climbs in state rankings

Hanover Area moved up to 402 from 469 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Wyoming Valley 2. The Hawks climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Northwest Area 20-14.

Lake-Lehman added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Elmer L. Meyers, 14-10. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Hanover Area's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jacob Peters threw for 218 and 3 touchdowns and Stephen Morgan had 97 yards receiving. On the ground Isaiah Taylor chipped in 71 yards. Elido Veras helped Hanover Area's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.

Ron Hummer's team's dynamic duo of Peters and Morgan proved to be unstoppable against the Rangers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Veras helped Hanover Area's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.

He went 8-18 with 1 interception.

Holy Redeemer's Jimmy Strickland and Eric kerr have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Strickland has thrown for 919 yards this season, while kerr, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 18 catches for 316 yards. The Hawks' Taylor leads the league in rushing yards with 410.

A big matchup in Wyoming Valley 2 this week will be when Greater Nanticoke Area takes on Northwest Area. The Trojans are currently in fourth, while Carl Majer's team is in first.

The Royals fell to GAR Memorial 35-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Strickland threw for 73 yards and ran for 48 yards in the loss.
