Baseball Recap: Gateway Wins Going Away Against Liberty

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lake Nona, Gateway was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Liberty Chargers as Gateway made off with a 16-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Romeo Delgado looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaleb Bermudez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. Ian Colon was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Gateway's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Liberty, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Gateway Panthers challenge Tohopekaliga Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Liberty, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Haines City at 7:00 p.m. on April 7. Liberty is facing Haines City at the right time seeing as Haines City is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
