Volleyball Recap: Porter-Gaud Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Porter-Gaud had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 3-1 to the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cyclones of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2022.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-12.

Malaya Singletary paced Porter-Gaud's offense, picking up seven kills. Singletary got some help from Harriett Matenaer and her ten assists. Singletary was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Oceanside Collegiate Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1.

Coming up, Porter-Gaud will take on Northwood Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Cyclones their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Oceanside Collegiate Academy, they will face off against First Baptist School at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
