Softball Game Preview: Schenck Wolverines vs. Penobscot Valley Howlers

Schenck hasn't had much luck against Penobscot Valley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolverines will face off against the Howlers at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Schenck sitting on five straight victories and Penobscot Valley on nine.

Last Wednesday, Schenck got the win against Lee Academy by a conclusive 18-10. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

11 must be Penobscot Valley's lucky number: they beat Stearns with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Howlers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Minutemen an 11-0 shutout. The Howlers are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the eighth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.

Penobscot Valley let Charlotte Dube and Ellie Austin run wild. Dube went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, while Austin went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Dube a new career-high. Lila Cummings was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Penobscot Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .559 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Penobscot Valley pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Schenck, their record now sits at 7-3.

Schenck suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Penobscot Valley in their previous meeting on May 5th. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
