Baseball Recap: Abingdon/Avon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Abingdon/Avon dropped their record down to 12-11 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 15-11 to the Macomb Bombers. The Tornadoes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bombers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Macomb, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Macomb's part, Nick Elbe made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Elbe a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Drew Watson was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Isaac Leinbach, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Abingdon/Avon has already played their next game (against Geneseo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Macomb, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-5 loss against Rockridge on the 16th.
