Preview: Banks Braves vs. South Umpqua Lancers
Banks is on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while South Umpqua is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Banks Braves will take on the South Umpqua Lancers at 0:01 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Banks walked away with it. They breezed by North Valley at home to the tune of 35-6.
Banks had a senior duo take command as Kade Long threw for 159 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes and Ashton Crossen rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Another player making a difference was Justin Walters, who rushed for 29 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, South Umpqua owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They beat Lakeview by the very same score they won with last week: 20-0.
Banks' win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for South Umpqua, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Banks beat South Umpqua 20-7 when the teams last played back in September of 2015. Does Banks have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Umpqua turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
