Basketball Recap: Smithfield-Selma Starts Season with Win on the Road + How To Watch

Smithfield-Selma had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They really took it to the Spring Creek Gators for the full four quarters, racking up a 93-53 victory. The Spartans pushed the score to 69-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Gators had no chance of recovering from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smithfield-Selma to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jimmy Raiford, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. Those 16 points gave Raiford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Khyree Noel, who went 9-for-14 to rack up 23 points.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malachi Moore, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Joshua Carr, who earned eight points.

Smithfield-Selma wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-58 loss against West Johnston on the 19th. As for Spring Creek, they have also already played their next matchup, an 81-65 defeat against Union on the 1st.
