Basketball Recap: NIJIER ALEXANDER's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Denver East over Denver South

Denver East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 67-64 heartbreaker at the hands of the Denver South Ravens. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), the Angels still had to take the loss.

Denver East lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being NIJIER ALEXANDER, who went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, ALEXANDER now owns an excellent 50% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of JAMES MURRAY, who went 5 for 9 to rack up 16 points in addition to six boards and four blocks.

Denver South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brody Shepherd led the charge by going 6 of 8 on his way to 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Dominic Rhoades-Martinez, who went 6 for 13 en route to 15 points and five assists.

Denver East's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Denver South, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.

Coming up, Denver East will host Rangeview at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rangeview will roll in looking for their 19th straight win, something Denver East surely won't give up without a fight. As for Denver South, they and Northfield will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.8 points per game this season.
