The Westminster Owls will head out on the road to face off against the Winters Mill Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Winters Mill took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Westminster, who comes in off a win.
If Westminster beats Winters Mill with 14 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Owls blew past Century 14-8 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Owls brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Lila Moxley was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Ward was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Westminster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Winters Mill came up short against Century on Thursday and fell 6-3. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Briana Collins put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Collins was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Natalie Furr was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Westminster is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Winters Mill, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Winters Mill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westminster has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Winters Mill, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Westminster's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Westminster suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Winters Mill in their previous meeting last Thursday. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
