Softball Game Preview: Riverside Beavers vs. Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets

The Riverside Beavers will face off against the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Riverside is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Perry a 2-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Beavers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon had already won 20 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it 21 on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Generals. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Yellowjackets have posted since April 27, 2024.

Jocelyn Scarbury spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Rylee Myers was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

Riverside's victory bumped their record up to 26-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 27-2.
