Whitney and Oak Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will head out to square off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Whitney 3, Oak Ridge 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Whitney is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Clovis North 2-1. Two seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Taylor Cordell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Rabe was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Mustangs 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Oak Ridge also got a great performance from Ellison Schroeder as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emery Glaser, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Paratore, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Oak Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capuchino only posted a batting average of .118.
Whitney is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Oak Ridge, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-4.
Whitney beat Oak Ridge 5-1 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
