Basketball Game Preview: East Grand Rapids Pioneers vs. Byron Center Bulldogs

East Grand Rapids is 1-9 against Byron Center since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The East Grand Rapids Pioneers will be playing at home against the Byron Center Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, East Grand Rapids beat Ottawa Hills 50-38. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Bengals are ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Byron Center). Everything went their way against Jenison on Friday as Byron Center made off with a 57-34 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bulldogs have posted since February 27, 2024.

East Grand Rapids has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games. Byron Center's win bumped their record up to 2-19.
