Baseball Recap: Urbana's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Urbana came into Friday's matchup having lost 12 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past the Danville Vikings 19-1 on Friday. The Tigers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12th (when they won 22-0).

Corey Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Isaac Armstrong and Nico Wiemelt did most of the damage at the plate: Armstrong got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Wiemelt went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Urbana is undefeated when Armstrong posts two or more runs, but 2-19 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Daniels, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Urbana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Urbana's record is now 6-19. As for Danville, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-23.

Urbana wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against MacArthur on the 20th. As for Danville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-2 loss against Casey-Westfield on the 17th.
