Pathways snaps six-game streak of wins at home

Recap: Pathways Eagles vs. Downey Christian Patriots

It was a good run, but the Pathways Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. Their rough 73-47 loss to Downey Christian might stick with them for a while. Pathways was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-16.

Pathways' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Escalera, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Branden Southall, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Downey Christian was led to victory by Patrick Olajuwon and Maylon Marte. Olajuwon dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 18 rebounds, and ten blocks, while Marte scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. Olajuwon is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last 21 games he's played. Gian Vera was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.

Pathways' defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-5. As for Downey Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Pathways will be playing in front of their home fans against Nazaret Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nazaret Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Pathways likes a good challenge. As for Downey Christian, they will head out on the road to take on Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
