The Jersey Village Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Memorial Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Jersey Village's win against Cypress Ridge wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Jersey Village had just enough and edged out Cypress Ridge 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since March 5, 2024.
Jersey Village let Camdyn Brown and Jordyn Battise run wild. Brown scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Battise scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Ja'Niya Whiting was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base.
Meanwhile, Memorial entered their tilt with Northbrook on Tuesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Elise Adams was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Brooke Kearns was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ida Newell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive games.
Memorial's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jersey Village, their record now sits at 6-12.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jersey Village hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jersey Village suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Memorial in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Jersey Village avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
