Baseball Recap: Fredericksburg Comes Up Short

Fredericksburg extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 16-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Canyon Lake. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against Canyon Lake this season, with their most recent loss being a 14-5 defeat last Thursday.

Fredericksburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colten Wolfe, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

As for Canyon Lake, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

On Canyon Lake's side, Carter Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hayes Holladay, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gram Simpson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Fredericksburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Canyon Lake, they will square off against Travis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
