Basketball Recap: Carbon Dinos vs. Richfield Wildcats
It was a good run, but the Carbon Dinos unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. Their tough 67-42 defeat to Richfield might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Carbon has scored all season.
Defeat or not, Carbon got some senior leadership from Madison Orth and Amiah Timothy. Orth scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Timothy. scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Timothy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylan Sorenson, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Carbon struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Richfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hallie Janes, who scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was Abbee Albrecht, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Carbon's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-5. As for Richfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carbon will face off against the Templars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Manti is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Richfield, they will head out on the road to take on the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for North Sanpete: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Wildcats have snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
