Despite an unexpected loss, the Spartans should still be California's best in 2014. They're No. 5 in the preseason Top 25 rankings.

2013 finish: 14-1, CIF Open Division Bowl runner-up

Points per game: 42.1

Points allowed: 12.3

No. of returning starters (offense): 6

No. of returning starters (defense): 5

Outlook: The unexpected transfer of Kahlil McKenzie hurts a defense that had (and might still have) the potential to be dominant. However, the team's offense should be better than the 2013 version. Folsom will be a tougher match than a year ago, but there's little reason why Spartans fans shouldn't pencil in another trip to the StubHub Center.{PAGEBREAK}
