Basketball Game Preview: Uintah Utes vs. Cottonwood Colts

Uintah is 0-4 against Cottonwood since January of 2022 but things could change on Saturday. The Uintah Utes will venture away from home to take on the Cottonwood Colts at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Uintah is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They snuck past Mountain Crest with a 73-69 victory.

Meanwhile, Cottonwood played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Wasatch Academy and fell 90-63. While losing is never fun, the Colts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Tigers are ranked fifth).

Uintah will need to focus on slowing down Malei Atem, one of several Cottonwood players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 11 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was John Rosevear, who went 6-for-14 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds.

Uintah's win bumped their record up to 15-10. As for Cottonwood, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

Uintah was dealt a bruising 96-62 defeat at the hands of Cottonwood in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Uintah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
