St. Joseph's Prep begins atop Keystone State despite uncertainties around the season.

High school football in Pennsylvania kicks off Sept. 11. In preparation for openers around the Keystone State, we size up the contenders with a look at the state's top 25 teams across all six classifications.

St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) enters the season as the team to beat, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation behind a strong returning core that features Ohio State commits Kyle Mccord at quarterback and Marvin Harrison Jr. at wide receiver; while Clemson commit Jeremiah Trotter Jr. anchors the defense.

Although the Philadelphia Catholic League announced its schools would not be playing football until 2021, the Hawks are working on putting together an independent schedule for the 2020 season.

WPIAL powers Pine-Richland (Gibsonia), Central Catholic (Pittsburgh) and Peters Township (McMurray) round out the top 4 teams in the state.

Top 25 programs who will have to wait until 2021 to begin their season include Northeast (Philadelphia), Archbishop Wood (Warminster), La Salle College (Wyndmoor) and Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia).
