Basketball Recap: McQueen Takes a Loss

If McQueen was feeling good fresh off their 85-48 takedown of Aspire Langston Hughes Academy on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lancers took a 54-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lathrop Spartans on Friday. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, McQueen still got an impressive performance from Abram Carpenter, who shot 86% from the field on his way to 12 points and five boards. Carpenter has also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 86% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ej Coops, who posted six points.

Bryan Gamboa was nothing short of spectacular for Lathrop: he went 9-for-17 en route to 25 points. Justin Neal was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

McQueen's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Lathrop, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

McQueen has already played their next game, a 62-59 loss against Bear Creek on the 6th. As for Lathrop, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-64 win against Colfax on the 6th.
