Farmington is a perfect 10-0 against Apple Valley since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Farmington has four straight wins, Apple Valley has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It was a proper cat-fight when Farmington faced off against Lakeville South on Wednesday. The Tigers blew past the Cougars 12-1. Fans of the Tigers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Olivia Peterson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on 11 hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Lila Johannsen and Ellie Peterson did most of the damage at the plate: Johannsen went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Ellie scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Redman, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Farmington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Apple Valley fell victim to Lakeville North and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.
Apple Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Amelia Duran gave up only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits. Duran has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Apple Valley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ginny Gores, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Gores has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Farmington's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 7.5 runs thus far. As for Apple Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Apple Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Farmington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .552. It's a different story for Apple Valley, though, as they've only averaged .235. Will they be able to contain Farmington's hitters?
Everything went Farmington's way against Apple Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Farmington made off with a 10-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
