Baseball Recap: Maine South Takes a Loss

Maine South suffered their closest defeat since April 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Glenbrook South Titans by a score of 8-6. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Maine South got a good showing from Russell Hengels, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Hengels has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Luka Stojakovic and Constantine Coines did some serious damage despite the final result: Stojakovic went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Coines scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Coines has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Nate Cera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Maine South's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7. As for Glenbrook South, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7.

While Maine South had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
