Football Recap: Lubbock-Cooper Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Lubbock-Cooper unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 35-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lovejoy Leopards on Friday. The Pirates were up 21-7 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lovejoy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob Janecek, who rushed for 131 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 159 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards Janecek has posted since back in September of 2024. 89 of Janecek's passing yards were hauled in by Coleman Reaugh, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Coming up, Lubbock-Cooper will square off against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lovejoy, they will take on Highland Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
