Basketball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Comes Up Short

Cardinal Gibbons played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs and fell 73-22. The Crusaders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-14.

Despite the loss, Cardinal Gibbons saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lilly Kenefick posted seven points.

Southeast Raleigh's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Korryn Davis led the charge by going 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dariyah Harris, who put up 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Cardinal Gibbons is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6. As for Southeast Raleigh, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardinal Gibbons will venture away from home to face off against Ashley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons is facing Ashley at the right time seeing as Ashley is stuck on a four-game losing streak. After both having extra time off, Southeast Raleigh and Fuquay - Varina will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 6:15 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Southeast Raleigh is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
