Baseball Game Preview: River Valley Vikings vs. Ontario Warriors

For the second straight game, River Valley will face off against Ontario. The Vikings will challenge the Warriors at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (River Valley has three straight victories, Ontario has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

River Valley will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Ontario, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Warriors on Tuesday.

For Ontario's part, Jaren Holden and Kasen Pittman were huge no matter where they played even without the win. On the mound, Holden pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Pittman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Holden went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Pittman went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Pittman has become a key player for Ontario: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Max Ciroli was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

River Valley's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Ontario, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
