Basketball Game Preview: Edwards County Lions vs. Flora Wolves

The Edwards County Lions and the Flora Wolves will compete for holiday cheer at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Edwards County's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Flora has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Edwards County is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since December 22, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Mt. Carmel and fell 71-39. The match marked the Lions' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Flora played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 53-22 defeat at the hands of Newton. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 544th, while the Eagles are ranked 158th).

Edwards County's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-1. As for Flora, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.

Edwards County strolled past Flora in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 53-36. Will Edwards County repeat their success, or does Flora have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
