Basketball Game Preview: Waverly Vikings vs. Gretna Dragons

Waverly hasn't had much luck against Gretna recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Waverly will head into Saturday's contest out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They were beaten by Norris 72-27. The match marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Waverly's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Cooper Happold, who posted nine points and five rebounds, and Carter McMillan, who put up four points.

Meanwhile, Gretna was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Bennington an easy 69-48 victory. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Badgers are ranked 41st).

Gretna's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Waverly, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Waverly came up short against Gretna when the teams last played back in December of 2018, falling 53-44. Can Waverly avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
