Basketball Recap: Monett Comes Up Short

If Monett was feeling good fresh off their 75-52 takedown of Hollister last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Monett Cubs took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Newton Patriots on Monday. The Cubs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Monett has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for East Newton, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monett is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Carthage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Carthage will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Monett surely won't give up without a fight. As for East Newton, they will square off against McDonald County at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
