Softball Recap: Grimsley Comes Up Short

Grimsley had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it six. They lost 20-0 to the Southwest Guilford Cowboys. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, the Whirlies' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Southwest Guilford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by ten runs or more this season.

For Southwest Guilford's part, Caroline Christman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Christman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amelia Stewart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Patel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grimsley will face off against Northern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Whirlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Nighthawks have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season. As for Southwest Guilford, they are taking a road trip to square off against Piedmont Classical at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
