According to MaxPreps.com basketball editor Jason Hickman, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.) senior Richard Longrus has verbally committed to Washington State.

Longrus, a rugged 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward, picked the Cougars over Stanford and Colorado.

Known for his defensive prowess and occasional offensive explosion, Longrus should be O'Dowd's No. 1 threat this season with the transfer of Arizona-bound Brandon Ashley, who is currently enrolled at Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.).

Longrus is a bright, receptive and talented student-athlete who has some major upside on the offensive end. He appears already at the Division I level on the defensive end and rebounding.

He averaged 11.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game last season for O'Dowd, which went 25-7 and won its second straight Northern California Division III title.
