Basketball Recap: Kellen Hampton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moreau Catholic over Redwood

After flying high against Newark Memorial on Friday, Moreau Catholic came back down to earth. The Moreau Catholic Mariners fell to the Redwood Giants 54-50. The Mariners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Giants apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Moreau Catholic lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kellen Hampton, who posted 15 points and eight rebounds. The game was Hampton's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Clendinen, who scored 11 points.

Even though they lost, Moreau Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Moreau Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Redwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Moreau Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-30 win against James Logan on the 29th. As for Redwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-53 victory against San Marin on the 28th.
