Basketball Recap: Hibriten Comes Up Short

Hibriten fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Alexander Central on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 49-47. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 38-30 to the Cougars when the teams met back in February, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Hibriten lost, don't look at Aamori Patterson. Despite the final result, she went 5-for-10 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. Patterson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Emilee Cook, who posted nine points and five assists.

Meredith Wike was a one-woman wrecking crew For Alexander Central. as she almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wike has scored at least a third of the Cougars' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malayah Adams, who earned 12 points and three steals.

Hibriten's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Alexander Central, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hibriten will face off against Ashe County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Alexander Central, they will take on Davie County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
