Recap: Emery Spartans vs. Fruita Monument Wildcats
After a string of four wins, the Emery Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fruita Monument. Emery lost against Fruita Monument in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 51-48 score last time.
Despite the loss, Emery still got an impressive performance from Katelyn Nielson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Nielson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Kenadie Maughan was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Among those leading the charge was Olivia Campbell, who scored 20 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Fruita Monument's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Eyre, who scored 7 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Emery's defeat dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Fruita Monument, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Emery is on the road again on Saturday and play against Wasatch at 11:00 a.m. on December 2nd. Wasatch will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Fruita Monument, they will square off against Uintah at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Uintah focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Friday.
