While Rancho Cotate didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They breezed past the Montgomery Vikings to the tune of 42-6 on Friday. That looming 42-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Rancho Cotate's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Gregori, who threw for 97 yards and two TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 38 yards. The dominant performance also gave Gregori a new career-high in passer rating (153.3). Another receiver making a difference was Devin Perkins, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

The victory keeps Rancho Cotate at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 29.8 points this season. As for Montgomery, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Rancho Cotate will challenge St. Vincent de Paul at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Montgomery, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ukiah at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Vikings will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
