The Scripps Ranch Falcons will square off against the Point Loma Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Scripps Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Scripps Ranch is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since March 24th on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho Buena Vista, sneaking past 5-4.
Sarah Cornelissen was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sienna Cole, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Point Loma never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Patrick Henry on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Patriots. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ella Poulin and Remington Spangler made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Poulin pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Meanwhile, Spangler pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. At bat, Poulin went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs, while Spangler went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those three hits gave Poulin a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sage Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Siena Balistreri, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Point Loma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Patrick Henry only posted an OBP of .240.
Point Loma is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Scripps Ranch, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Scripps Ranch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
