Softball Recap: Muncy Comes Up Short

Muncy extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-9. They lost 7-0 to the Columbia Montour Vo-Tech Rams. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Sophie Maiorana spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

As for Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7. Considering they have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Columbia Montour Vo-Tech's side, the result came thanks to Mikayla Honse's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. Honse has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Arianna Sheatler was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mackeely Boggs, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muncy will head out to challenge Northwest Area at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, they will venture away from home to take on Bucktail at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will need to watch out since the Bucks have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
