Football Recap: Hillcrest Trojans vs. Santiago Sharks
Hillcrest's game on Thursday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of the Santiago Sharks by a score of 52-50. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sharks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Despite the loss, Hillcrest still got an impressive performance from Matthew Ramos, who picked up 121 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 33 yards and a pair of TDs. Ramos' longest reception was for an incredible 77 yards. Hillcrest also got help from Zyren Jones, who showed off his sure hands for 115 receiving yards.
Clayton Plewe was a one-man wrecking crew For Santiago. as he rushed for 148 yards and four scores while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 360 yards and one touchdown while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Plewe a new career-high. Ryan Wilson was another key player, picking up 227 receiving yards and one TD.
Hillcrest's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Santiago, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Coming up, Hillcrest will challenge Ramona at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santiago, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Silverado at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
