Basketball Recap: Asheville School (Independent)'s Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

It was fun while it lasted, but Asheville School (Independent)'s undefeated season came to an end after ten games on Wednesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the Luella Lions. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Blues came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 25th in North Carolina, while the Lions are ranked 91st in Georgia).

When it comes to explaining why Asheville School (Independent) lost, don't look at Ryann Hernandez. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Hernandez has posted since back in February. London Miller was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Asheville School (Independent) smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Having lost for the first time this season, Asheville School (Independent) fell to 10-1. As for Luella, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Asheville School (Independent) wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 61-8 victory against Apalachee on the 19th. As for Luella, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-28 win against Gibbs on the 19th.
