Softball Recap: Northwestern Trojans vs. Riverside Warriors
Northwestern extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 8-19. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Riverside Warriors. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2018.
As for Riverside, they pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.
For Riverside's part, Mia Gallello made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Gallello has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Gallello wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Livia Gillespie, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Gillespie a new career-high.
As of now, neither Northwestern nor Riverside have any future games scheduled.
