Preview: Sand Rock Wildcats vs. Piedmont Bulldogs
After five games on the road, Sand Rock is heading back home. They will take on the Piedmont Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Sand Rock didn't have too much trouble with Sylvania on the road as they won 71-52. Given Sand Rock's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Sylvania is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sand Rock had a senior duo take command as Zoey Handy scored 25 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 steals and Katelyn St.Clair scored 25 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which St.Clair has scored at least 25% of Sand Rock's points. Kennedy Henderson was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Piedmont blew past Cedar Bluff, posting a 67-19 victory at home. The victory was just what Piedmont needed coming off of a 46-25 loss in their prior game.
Sand Rock has yet to lose a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 5-2 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for Piedmont, their victory bumped their record up to 1-2.
Sand Rock didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Piedmont in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 60-56 win. Does Sand Rock have another victory up their sleeve, or will Piedmont turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
